What an AI assistant needs to work across days
A task that lasts ten minutes can survive on immediate context. A mission that lasts ten days needs an operating record that can withstand model changes, closed laptops, interrupted tools, new evidence, and human decisions.

Durable state is different from a long context window.
Resumption requires checkpoints, evidence, and known outcome status.
Multi-day external execution is Direction for Superboard today.
A context window is not a durable mission
A model can reason over a large prompt and still lose the operating truth when the session ends, an artifact changes elsewhere, or another worker acts from an older assumption. Durable work needs stable identity outside the model call.
Boards and Card Rooms provide that structure for current human work; the longer-running Ava runtime is Direction.
The minimum resumption record
- The goal, constraints, current plan, and Owner-defined success.
- Completed actions and the evidence that proves their outcomes.
- Open actions, leases, retries, and unknown outcomes.
- Artifacts and sources with stable references.
- Decisions that need the Owner, with options and a recommendation.
Available today
Available today: durable rooms, not a cloud worker
Current Superboard keeps Cards, Stage artifacts, Chat, Pulse, Activity, and supported recovery available across visits. That durable product state is real.
Ava does not currently monitor missions continuously, resume arbitrary external workflows after the laptop closes, or operate a general multi-day cloud runtime.
Direction
Direction: continue, check, and escalate
The direction is a governed runtime that checkpoints progress, verifies external outcomes, monitors what matters, pauses at real boundaries, and returns prepared judgment instead of a blank question.
The Card remains the home for the assignment and resulting evidence even when execution occurs elsewhere.
